As part of the long term GPUK sustainability strategy, the Operations team is responsible for driving carbon reduction across the London Estate Portfolio while delivering strong commercial results. The Head of Energy and Carbon will be responsible for implementing sustainability initiatives and operational strategies that enhance the environmental, social, and economic performance of the London portfolio. The successful candidate will also oversee service performance of our utilities management supplier to ensure they are managed effectively including procurement, tenant recharging, and query management.
The role will report to the Operations Director - Property Management and will be responsible for ensuring that the Operations Team contributes to Grosvenor's ambitious carbon reduction targets while delivering an exceptional experience for our tenants, and driving strong commercial management of our utilities costs. They will be responsible for collaborating with the property management team, facilities managers, suppliers, and our sustainability team to drive continuous improvement in sustainability across our portfolio.
Key Responsibilities- Develop, implement, and manage sustainability programmes to reduce energy consumption across the London portfolio in line with Grosvenor's Planet Positive Strategy and Net Zero Carbon Pathway.
- Collaborate with suppliers and consultants to monitor and analyse energy usage across the portfolio and identify methods to reduce consumption.
- Engage with the Innovation Team to identify and implement pilot projects to test the efficacy of emerging building optimisation technologies.
- Work closely with the Operations Sustainability Business Partner to ensure the Operations Team completes the actions set out in the annual Sustainability Roadmap.
- Manage a small team delivering Grosvenor's smart meter rollout.
- Stay abreast on industry trends, best practices, and regulatory changes that impact sustainability and the utilities industry.
- Prepare regular reports for the Operations Senior Leadership Team and Operational Carbon Steering group to detail live programmes and progress towards goals.
- Support Grosvenor in the pursuit of relevant sustainability certifications (e.g. NABERS).
- Collaborate with teams across the business to ensure compliance with relevant regulations (e.g. MEES).
- Contribute to long-term planning including budgeting and strategy development.
- Define and implement the utilities strategy including metering and management.
- Oversee the management of all utilities across the portfolio working with Grosvenor's utilities management supplier to ensure efficient tenant recharging and timely resolution of issues/queries.
- Collaborate with the Utilities Management Supplier and the Property Management and development team to ensure that the record of void units is maintained and change of tenancies are managed effectively.
- Work closely with Grosvenor's energy broker and procurement team to optimise contracts to reduce costs while supporting our sustainability objectives.
Key Requirements- A relevant science, mathematics, engineering based undergraduate degree
- Extensive experience in sustainability, environmental management, or project management ideally within the property management or real estate sector.
- Previous experience, or background, of engineering or management consultancy would be ideal, but is not essential
- Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple sustainability projects simultaneously.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple initiatives and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
- Familiarity with regulatory requirements related to utilities, energy, and environmental performance beneficial.
- Strong analytical skills and experience with data analysis using multiple sources of data.
