Main Purpose of the Job: The Gardener 3 will be responsible for the upkeep of the full range of parks, gardens, and open spaces across the Council District, with a particular focus on maintaining Council-owned waterways. This role will require working in all weather conditions as part of a team to ensure the highest standards of grounds maintenance.
You Duties: - Driving & Equipment Use: Operate and be responsible for vehicles, plant equipment, and machinery. Routine maintenance, including checks on oil and water, will be required.
- Grounds Maintenance: Carry out tasks such as grass cutting, hedge trimming, sweeping, litter removal, and pest control in public parks, playing fields, and open spaces.
- Horticultural Operations: Planting, pruning, seeding, and general grounds upkeep, including using chemical pest control methods.
- Canal and Reservoir Maintenance: Operate powered launches and Council boats for canal and reservoir duties, ensuring safe water levels and gate operations.
- Safety & Security: Ensure safety standards are followed while operating tools, machinery, and equipment. Maintain security to prevent loss or damage.
- Record Keeping: Complete necessary paperwork, including timesheets, vehicle checks, and maintenance logs.
- Public Interaction: Patrol parks and open spaces to ensure orderly conduct and enforce Council bylaws.
- Spraying Operations: If qualified (PA1-PA6), carry out spraying operations in compliance with COSHH regulations.
Your Profile: - A valid driving license and experience operating vehicles and machinery is essential.
- Practical knowledge of grounds maintenance and horticultural operations.
- Knowledge of safety procedures and regulations.
- PA1-PA6 spraying qualification (desirable).
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Your Benefits: - £13.63 per hour.

Additional Information: - Full time, Temporary, 36 hours per week.
- Alternate weekend cover Saturday mornings 8am to 12.
- Must be willing to work along waterbodies and within Council Boats.
- This is a casual, car user role.
- The postholder will be required to work across the Newry, Mourne, and Down District.
