Overview of the Role:
To work for the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) is to join a thriving charity, whose mission is to inspire everyone to grow. Everything we do is built on the transformational power of gardening - and the benefits it brings to people, places, and our planet.
Known globally for our inspirational Shows and five spectacular Gardens, our work extends to leading ground-breaking climate research, running community outreach programmes, and setting the standards in horticultural education.
And we could not do this without our people. We are proud of the knowledge, enthusiasm, and ideas that each one of our team members brings. From working across our social media channels, to volunteering in the RHS Gardens, from serving customers in our garden centres to running national marketing campaigns, we believe that every member of the RHS team should have the opportunity to make a difference.
As a Horticulturist you will be part of the Hilltop Garden Team with particular focus on the Queen Mothers Garden with its mixed borders of trees, shrubs and perennials originally established by Dick and Helen Robinson, the gardens founders. This role will offer you an opportunity to be involved in reviewing the design and layout of the Queen Mothers Garden and revitalise and enhance the plantings in this established part of the garden and therefore make your mark. Sitting in the heart of the garden the Queen Mothers Garden also provides a link to the Australasian Garden and the Dry Garden.
As well as carrying out maintenance and enhancements to the Queen Mothers Garden you will work with the wider team carrying out cultivation and day-to-day maintenance of the other wide ranging ornamental plantings the team oversees from the classic Rose Garden and Herbaceous Border to our iconic Dry Garden as well as the island beds in the Hilltop Garden.
You will need to be a good team player and enjoy working in a team environment. You should hold an RHS Level 2 Diploma in the Principles and Practises of Horticulture or equivalent and be familiar with a range of standard horticultural techniques, with proven practical experience.
We ensure all of our Horticulturists are qualified in all aspects of machinery use, spraying, tractor driving etc and this is provided for you as standard. This is a huge opportunity to learn from and integrate into our dynamic garden team and diverse plant collection.
