Closing date: 21st April 2025.We encourage early applications, as vacancies may close once we receive sufficient applications.About the role:The Environmental Consultant plays a key role in the implementation of our Environmental Management System (EMS) and is crucial to its improvement and the development of our environmental culture. The Environmental Consultant is a trusted advisor on all matters relating to our established EMS, including carbon net-zero and sustainable practice.
They help to ensure our environmental assurance obligations, associated risks and opportunities are understood, and they establish how effectively our environmental controls are operating - identifying and instigating value adding improvements, as appropriate.
Reporting to the Business Assurance Lead, they will support the Health, Safety and Environmental Manager and will work closely with the Health & Safety and Environmental Consultants, as well as coordinating with the Business Assurance (BA) - Excellence Team (BA Consultants) and domain experts within the wider Business Assurance team.
The Environmental Consultant:
- Supports the implementation of the EMS, as required, including: the preparation, control & management of documented procedures and associated communications; the development & use of internal tools as necessary; delivery of awareness training and records management to ensure compliance with legal, regulatory or client obligations.
- Supports the Health, Safety and Environmental Manager in determining and defining associated Environmental risk control requirements.
- Works with colleagues in the Business Assurance team to support activities across other management systems, as may be required from time-to-time.
- Engages with colleagues from other businesses or operations within the KBR family to support the corporate needs of the parent organisation.
- Works closely with key stakeholders to support the delivery of decarbonisation plans and liaises with other business functions, as necessary, to promote environmental requirements, as well as good practice.
- Undertakes the planning, coordination, and execution of internal audits of the EMS, including the identification of non-compliances, corrective actions monitoring and reporting.
- Analyses audit results, incidents, events, and other feedback, to identify opportunities for improvement and proposes solutions to address them; provides reports and support with associated communications as may be required.
- Supports external audits, inspections, or investigations, as required, to meet the requirements of our clients, their agents, certification bodies or regulators etc.
- Assists project and business managers with requests for advice on environmental and sustainable practice, guidance and support to prequalification submissions, bids for new work, and on procedural matters and supplier assessments
Essential skills and experience:- Good working knowledge of Environmental management practice and systems, supported by appropriate education and qualification, e.g., Certificate in Environmental Management or working towards degree level.
- Good working knowledge of ISO 14001 (Environmental Management System) and associated documentation.
- A working knowledge of sustainability and carbon reduction, with an understanding of Net Zero & SBTi frameworks and emissions categories.
- Strong analytical skills for inputting and interpreting carbon reporting data.
- Trained internal environmental auditor.
- Planning and managing tasks to meet requirements and deadlines.
- Working towards, or membership of, a relevant professional institute, e.g., Institute of Environmental Management & Assessment (IEMA).
Desirable skills and experience:- Technical, engineering, or professional services background preferred.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office 365, including Teams and Sharepoint would be an advantage
- Previous experience support data collection and analysis for carbon reporting requirements, experience in Carbon Accounting Scope 1, 2 and 3 desirable.
