Are you passionate about horticulture and working in a dynamic outdoor environment? We are seeking a Neighbourhood Services Operative (Gardener) to join our team, ensuring high standards in public parks and open spaces across the County Borough.
Your Duties: As a Neighbourhood Services Operative (Gardener), you will: - Carry out a varied range of gardening duties with minimal supervision.
- Perform general grounds maintenance such as grass cutting using pedestrian and ride-on mowers.
- Operate hand tools including strimmers, hedge cutters, blowers, and other required equipment.
- Mark football fields and repair fine turf and playing surfaces.
- Conduct litter picking, bin emptying, and assist the arboricultural team when required.
- Drive vehicles and pull trailers (with appropriate qualifications).
- Undertake soil cultivation, digging, forking, mulching, watering, raking, weeding, debris clearing, edging, pruning, seed sowing, bed preparation, and planting.
- Maintain and cultivate lawns to a high standard.
- Ensure all tools, garden equipment, and machinery are properly maintained and report defects for safe working order.
- Assist with landscape construction projects.
- Carry out seasonal bedding removal and planting.
- Ensure adherence to Health and Safety legislation to maintain a safe working environment for staff and public users.
- Keep vans and tool sheds clean, tidy, and secure.
- Use natural methods for plant protection and pest control, avoiding the use of chemicals and pesticides.
- Undertake training as required and support other Neighbourhood Services departments as needed.
Your Profile: Experience & Qualifications: - Qualified to a minimum of Level 2 City & Guilds or equivalent in horticulture.
- Ability to work across various departments within Neighbourhood Services, including Waste, Highways, Street Cleansing, and Cemeteries, as required.
- Experience in general gardening and grounds maintenance.
- Understanding of Health and Safety practices in a public environment.
- A full, current driving licence is desirable.
Your Benefits: - £12.59 per hour.
- Pension contribution.
Additional Information: - Full time, Temporary.
- 37.5 hours per week, Monday-Friday.
- Cyfarthfa Park, Merthyr Tydfil.
