Job Title: Horticulturist (Formal team)
Location: RHS Garden Wisley
Salary: £26,435 - £27,923 per annum depending on experience
Hours: 37.5/week (including some weekends)
Contract: Permanent
Overview of the Role:
At RHS Garden Wisley we are looking to recruit a keen horticulturist to join the Formal Ornamental Team, which care and maintain the stunning Mixed Borders, Wisteria Walk, Cottage Garden and Exotic Garden, amongst other delights.
As a horticulturist at Wisley, you will be responsible for the care, improvement, cultivation and maintenance of a specific area as well as giving guidance to students and volunteers. The ability to lead and work as part of a team is essential. You should have a good knowledge of the horticultural practices required for the cultivation of shrubs, herbaceous perennials and bulbs.
The specific role we are recruiting for is a plantsperson's dream and involves looking after the Cottage Garden and seasonal container displays around the Formal areas. The Cottage Garden was originally laid out by Penelope Hobhouse in the early 1990s and blends billowing cottage-style plants with a formal layout. This role would suit someone with an interest in cottage garden style plants, a flair for design and creativity, as well as an ability to curate beautiful relaxed plantings.
To work for the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) is to join a thriving charity, whose mission is to be there for everyone on their lifelong adventure with gardening. Everything we do is built on the transformational power of gardening - and the benefits it brings to people, places and our planet.
And we couldn't do this without our people. We're proud of the knowledge, enthusiasm and ideas that each one of our team members brings. From working across our social media channels, to volunteering in the RHS Gardens, from serving customers in our garden centres to running national marketing campaigns, we believe that every member of the RHS team should have the opportunity to make a difference.
