We have a fantastic opportunity for a
Level 6 Apprentice Geo-Environmental / Geotechnical Consultant to join our thriving
Geo team.
We have between 2-4 positions available dependent on quality and geographic locations of candidates, with the positions available in the following locations:
- Bristol
- London
- Manchester / Stoke
- Northampton / Birmingham
The RoleIn brief, the role includes assisting with the delivery of geo-environmental/ geotechnical services, comprising:
- Working as part of integrated project teams of geo-environmental and geotechnical specialists, to design and deliver consultancy support to a range of clients, across the public and private sectors, including the Ministry of Defence, the Environment Agency, the Ministry of Justice, the Department for Education, land agents, planners, commercial and residential property developers.
- Assisting with geo-environmental and/or geotechnical assignments including (but not limited to):
- Phase I Desk Studies
- Design and management of site investigations, including both site-based fieldwork as well as office-based reporting
- Factual and interpretative report writing, including human health, groundwater and gas risk assessments, and provision of geotechnical recommendations
- Assisting in the preparation of Remediation Strategies, Material Management Plans, Geotechnical Design Reports and other follow-on design works
- Assistance with site monitoring / auditing during construction, and associated verification / feedback reporting
You will- Hydrock operate flexible working and there is possibility for working from home. However, in order to learn from those around you, there is an expectation that you are likely to spend the majority of your time in the office when not on site, or on block release.
- Study the Geoscientist Degree Apprenticeship at Keele University. The learning will be delivered on a block release basis, which are generally a week or so at a time (subject to confirmation by the University for each release).
- Course Overview
- The Geoscientist Degree Apprenticeship covers core geoscience fundamentals applicable across various sectors, including geotechnical consultancy, geo-resource assessment, and green technology. The programme offers a blend of online content, face-to-face sessions, and residential field courses.
- Geoscientist - Keele University
- Level 6 (Degree) Qualification: BSc (Hons) Geoscientist
- Programme Duration: 5 years
- Start Date: September 2025
- Learning Format: Combines block release and distance learning, including live workshops & discussions via Teams, pre-recorded lectures, set reading/activities, coursework, residential field courses, and on-campus sessions covering laboratory skills, fieldwork skills, and specialist computer skills including statistics & GIS.
- Professional Recognition: This apprenticeship aligns with the Geological Society of London for Fellow and The Science Council for Registered Scientist (RSci).
- Be expected to undertake studies outside of core work hours.
- Work full time, when not on block release. This may be in the office, onsite or from home, as agreed with your line manager.
You'll be set up for success if you have: - GSCE Maths and English at Level 4 / C or higher
- One of the below:
- A Levels - BBB
- BTEC - DDM
- International Baccalaureate - 29
- Experience in Microsoft Office programmes.
- GIS or AutoCAD skills.
- An enquiring and analytical mind, with an attention to detail.
- A demonstratable ability to work as part of a broad team, whilst taking ownership of your own deliverables.
- The ability to manage your time efficiently, in order to meet project deadlines and budgets.
