Role PurposeAs a gardener at Warley Park golf club, you will be responsible for maintaining the overall aesthetics, health, and functionality of the club's landscaped areas, gardens, driveway and green spaces. You will ensure that all plants, trees, and flowerbeds are well-kept, enhancing the club's visual appeal and providing a pleasant environment for members and guests. Working closely with the groundskeeping team, the gardener contributes to the upkeep of non-playing areas while supporting the club's commitment to high horticultural standards.
ResponsibilitiesGeneral Garden and Driveway Maintenance - Plant, prune, and maintain trees, shrubs, flowers, and other vegetation.
- Mow, trim, and edge grassed areas around clubhouses, pathways, and non-playing zones.
- Weed, mulch, and fertilize flowerbeds and landscaped areas as needed.
Planting & Landscaping - Design and implement planting schemes to enhance the club's visual appeal.
- Select and care for seasonal flowers, plants, and shrubs suitable for the environment.
- Assist in garden renovations and special landscaping projects.
Irrigation & Watering - Monitor and maintain irrigation systems, ensuring proper water distribution.
- Hand-water plants, flowerbeds, and newly planted areas when necessary.
Pest & Disease Control - Identify and treat plant diseases and pest infestations.
- Apply organic or chemical treatments following safety guidelines.
Equipment & Tool Maintenance - Operate and maintain gardening tools and equipment, such as mowers, hedge trimmers, and pruning shears.
- Ensure all tools are cleaned, sharpened, and stored properly.
Seasonal Care & Weather Preparedness - Prepare gardens and landscaped areas for different seasons, including winterisation.
- Clear leaves, debris, and snow when necessary.
Health & Safety Compliance - Follow all health and safety regulations related to gardening tasks.
- Use appropriate PPE and ensure safe handling of chemicals and equipment.
Team Collaboration & Customer Interaction - Work alongside the groundskeeping team to ensure a cohesive approach to club maintenance.
- Assist members with gardening-related inquiries and uphold excellent customer service standards.
Requirements1. Qualifications & Certifications - A relevant horticultural qualification (e.g., RHS Level 2, NVQ in Horticulture, or equivalent) - desirable but not always essential.
- PA1/PA6 pesticide application certification - preferred but not mandatory.
- First Aid training - an advantage.
2. Experience - Proven experience in gardening, landscaping, or grounds maintenance.
- Previous experience working at a golf club, sports facility, or large estate - desirable.
- Knowledge of irrigation systems and plant care in different seasons.
3. Skills & Knowledge - Strong plant and turf maintenance knowledge, including pruning, fertilization, and pest control.
- Ability to use gardening tools, machinery, and equipment safely (e.g., mowers, hedge trimmers, strimmers).
- Basic understanding of health & safety regulations in landscaping and groundskeeping.
The RoleThis will be an hourly contract at £13.50p/h
Four days a week typically Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday
Six hours a day excluding weekend day which will be no longer than three hours
