Our Financial Services Climate and Sustainability practice are looking for an experienced Consultant/Senior Consultant with insurance expertise to join the team Our team of specialists in climate and sustainability have worked at some of the world's leading financial institutions, insurers, regulators, and think tanks. Our clients trust Baringa to work with them to solve their most complex challenges, valuing our expertise and the collaborative and practical way we deliver solutions.
We combine deep industry knowledge with the ability to draw on expertise from across Baringa's diverse sectors and geographies, enabling us to support our clients. This is particularly true in working with underwriting teams to understand the technology that will allow the transition to a low-carbon economy.
Over the last five years, we have supported over £200bn of investment in the transition to a sustainable economy, creating decarbonisation pathways that cover 250 million tonnes of emissions. We have also helped some of the world's largest insurers write their transition plans, navigating the complexities of decarbonisation while addressing their regulatory and commercial priorities.
As insurers face increasing regulatory and commercial pressures to address sustainability, we see a rapidly growing demand for our expertise. Whether developing and delivering credible transition plans, embedding sustainability into underwriting and claims processes, or navigating sustainability-related regulation, we help insurers turn these challenges into opportunities, embedding sustainability into their businesses and positioning them to support the transition to a low-carbon economy.
What you will be doing - Collaborating with leading insurers to develop and implement sustainability and decarbonisation strategies that align with industry best practices, regulatory requirements, and commercial goals.
- Engaging with underwriters, actuaries, and senior stakeholders to address the unique challenges of transitioning to sustainable business models, including navigating the implications of the global shift to a low-carbon economy and net zero commitments.
- Advising on regulatory compliance, such as CSRD, and supporting insurers in embedding these standards into governance frameworks, risk management and operational decision-making processes.
- Developing credible transition plans, designing implementation roadmaps, and identifying actionable decarbonisation levers and measures.
- Embedding sustainability into core business processes, such as underwriting, pricing, claims, and risk management, to ensure these changes drive long-term value and impact.
- Providing practical support on emissions-related challenges, helping insurers design and implement frameworks to measure and track facilitated emissions, and ensuring alignment with industry standards.
- Building trusted relationships and acting as a key advisor to insurers, offering insights and tailored solutions to support their sustainability journey.
- Contributing to knowledge sharing across Baringa, enhancing our collective expertise and ensuring teams are equipped to deliver exceptional outcomes for insurance clients.
Your skills and experience - You have practical experience within the insurance sector, ideally in roles that have provided you with direct exposure to underwriting, actuarial functions, or other core business areas.
- You bring proven project delivery skills with a track record of successfully managing or contributing to insurance organisations' complex sustainability or decarbonisation initiatives.
- You have the knowledge and credibility to engage confidently with underwriters, actuaries, and senior stakeholders, understanding their processes, challenges, and priorities as they navigate the transition to a sustainable future.
- You understand how insurers operate, including key business processes such as underwriting, claims management, and investment strategies, and how these intersect with sustainability and decarbonisation goals.
- You excel at stakeholder management and communication, building trusted relationships and delivering tailored, high-quality solutions that address clients' unique challenges.
- You are adaptable and thrive in dynamic environments, balancing technical expertise with practical, hands-on problem-solving to drive meaningful outcomes.
- Consultancy or professional services experience is welcome but not essential; what matters most is your ability to deliver impactful sustainability projects grounded in a deep understanding of the insurance industry.
- Ideally, you hold a relevant insurance qualification, such as CII (Chartered Insurance Institute) or equivalent, demonstrating your commitment to excellence and professional growth in the sector.
