Newport City Council is seeking a skilled and dedicated Gardener to join the Streetscene & City Services team. If you have experience in horticulture, grounds maintenance, and the operation of gardening equipment, this role offers an excellent opportunity.
Your Duties: - Perform a range of horticultural operations, including grass cutting, hedge trimming, leaf and litter clearance.
- Plant and maintain bedding plants, shrubs, and trees, including pruning and division.
- Apply chemicals safely and maintain sports facilities.
- Carry out general soft landscaping works such as top-soiling, cultivation, seeding, and shrub-bed renewal.
- Operate and maintain gardening tools, machinery, and vehicles in line with health and safety regulations.
- Report any defects in tools or equipment to the line manager.
- Ensure all work meets high horticultural standards and follows the Grounds Maintenance Specification.
- Take responsibility for personal and public safety, reporting incidents and adhering to health and safety regulations.
Your Profile: Essential Criteria: - NVQ Level 1 in Horticulture (or equivalent) OR a minimum of two years' practical experience in grounds maintenance.
- A full, current UK driving licence with at least 12 months of driving experience.
Desirable Criteria: - Spraying certificate.
- Knowledge of plant identification, disorders, and health and safety regulations.
- Experience using mowing equipment, small plant machinery, and soft landscaping work.
Your Benefits: - £12.59 per hour.

Additional Information: - Full time, Temporary.
- 37 hours per week, Monday-Friday
