The agritech field offers a wide range of green jobs, including engineering, science, and agriculture specialists.
Green jobs have been rapidly growing over the past few years, ramping up even more as countries face increasing pressure to achieve net-zero emissions. But within the scope of the green economy, most focus has been on renewable energy — particularly on solar panels and wind turbines.
There’s good reason for this, as those two fields have the potential to become among the highest-paying jobs. But renewable energy isn’t the only sector of the green economy, and not the only green jobs available. That’s why EcoCareers is releasing a series highlighting different sectors and green jobs available.
Our mission is to help connect jobseekers with green jobs, and this series will help to showcase the many different types of opportunities available.
What is Agritech?
Agritech is a term that stands for agricultural technology.
If you think about it, farming or agriculture can be considered the original green economy. But by now, most of human existence has been rapidly shaped by technological advancements. Agriculture is no exception.
Agritech is what happens when agriculture and technology meet. It’s the use of biotechnology to help grow crops. It’s the use of automation to water crops. It’s the use of hydroponics to create the perfect environment for food to grow. And so much more. This field is why modern-day agriculture is not the same as the farming of the past.
What Kind of Green Jobs Exist in Agritech?
In the same way that what farming looks like has changed, the kind of jobs associated with agriculture have now changed thanks to technology. Many agritech jobs are based in technology, requiring some degree of technical expertise and hands-on experience where possible.
